Modern Sling Options For The AR Carbine
After a period of rapid design as an aid to shooting, rifle slings were relegated to carrying the weapon and simpler designs prevailed. Up to the 60s one kind of sling was issued and there was really only one way to mount it. This changed on the M16 and XM-177 which allowed slinging in the ready position by suspending the rifle from its front sight post. The last decade of the 20th century saw a great increase in the options available on new weapons and it is now standard to offer a multitude of ways of fixing a sling and carrying
