The rat was given two invitations, 1 for himself and 1 for ones cat. The rat being the devious and clever type decided not to give the cat his invitation. The other 11 animals that have been sent invitations showed up at court. The King wanted to know in which the 12th animal was so a messenger was sent to earth to obtain another animal.
