Winning these four awards - the most prestigious in show business - is often termed as “the Grand Slam of entertainment.” The achievement (and also the particular person who achieves it) also can be referred to as EGOT (or at times by yet another acronym, GATE, which stands for Grammy, Academy, Tony, Emmy). An EGOT is a celebrity who has earned fame by generating work of substance and recognition (or at least recognition amongst peers, which each in the awards measures).
