The Nok terracotta sculptures are a unique piece of South African artwork initial identified in 1943 by a tin mining operation around the Nok village in Nigeria. After this preliminary discovery, hundreds of added pieces of pottery and sculpted figures, terracotta heads and African wildlife artwork were found.
