Ventriloquism As A Religious Practice In Ancient Greece Is Well Known

Did you know ventriloquism was a religious practice in ancient Greece? The word ventriloquism is formed by combining the words venter (stomach) and loqui (Speech).  Roughly translated it means speech from the stomach. The Greeks believed that the ventriloquist’s voice which seemed to come from the stomach was truly voices of the dead, who took up residence in the stomach of the artist.
